5 Reasons to avoid the iPhone by the FSF
iPhone won't play patent- and DRM-free formats like Ogg Vorbis and Theora.
Because those format are, you know, dead?
Using an iPod I never cared much for Vorbis and Theora, but to say that they're dead is just plain wrong.
For example: Ogg Vorbis is the format of choice for all audio content on Wikipedia and also widely used on sites providing free and/or CC-licenced music. Theora on the other hand just reached final beta stage, so calling it dead may be a bit too early.
On the technical side, both are at least equal in audio/video quality to other lossy formats - maybe superior, but I don't want to start a flamewar - though not as widespread.
Just because the current market leader(?) for digital audio players doesn't support them, doesn't mean that they're dead. Last time I checked, OS X was way behind Windows on the Desktop in terms of market share... :-)

Bullshit. The "tax" is a small part of the revenue a programmer makes that Apple takes in return for hosting and promoting the software for free, and it doesn't apply to free-as-in-beer-software. And there's nothing that prohibits free-as-in-speech software for the iphone - but due to obvious reasons, Apple won't upload the source code to your iPhone when you download such an app.
iPhone endorses and supports Digital Restrictions Management (DRM) technology.
Yes, it supports Apple's DRM - FairPlay - but as for endorsement, heard of iTunes Plus lately?
iPhone exposes your whereabouts and provides ways for others to track you without your knowledge.
And those ways would be, what, exactly? Not to mention that this would apply to any GPS-capable device, and that GPS can be turned off with one click.

iPhone is not the only option. There are better alternatives on the horizon that respect your freedom, don't spy on you, play free media formats, and let you use free software -- like the FreeRunner.
First, that's like saying "Don't drink orange juice, there's also milk!", and second, the FreeRunner isn't even close to a modern smartphone, no matter if you look at an iPhone, a Blackberry or pretty much any other device. The FreeRunner is a novelty tinker toy. Completely different market segment, folks.
I'm sick and tired of freetards using the same FUD strategy they attacked Microsoft for all these years.
